Who Runs the World? Know More About the Wonder Women

Nothing holds back a determined woman, not even her circumstances.

We are constantly being inspired by the wonderful women around us who actively strive to make a change and lead. These are women who fought through life and believed in themselves to make this world better one step at a time.

Dhannya Sreekumar

Dhannya Sreekumar is one such woman who used her personal experiences to kickstart mommypower.in – A venture that evolved into a revolution in the baby product business. It was after enduring long commutes during her pregnancy that she decided to #PressForProgress by starting iMoms – A space for informed, intelligent Indian mothers on Facebook. Dhannya believes in providing to “A vibrant community for Indian moms focused on supporting each other with the goal to empower them by helping them make informed parenting choices.”

She strongly believes that self-care is the way to ultimately help others and therefore began the #selfcare campaign to bring about awareness.

Dr. Saritha Jain

Health, beauty and nutrition are also imperative for our next inspiring woman, Dr. Saritha Jain – An Ayurveda and Aromatherapy expert who has practised her trade for 27 years. She believes in taking a more wholesome, back-to-basics approach to beauty. Her practice has played a significant role in the research and sourcing of all the natural goodness that goes into Vedaearth’ products! On combining her practice, she prompts us to “think of it like taking the benefits of (Ayurveda and Aromatherapy) one and doubling it by adding the other. A combo that provides long-term healing.”

A person who walks her talk, she also follows a vegan diet and lifestyle to maintain a healthy, happy cruelty-free life.

Lashitha Rathod

Lashitha realized her passion for cooking when she saw the joy her food brought to her mother, who would come back home tired after a long day at work. She then decided to pursue cooking instead of practicing law. Her mother’s support was crucial in her journey and as such, her unfortunate passing was not easy to bear. She channeled this grief into making her childhood dream a reality and founded the successful business “Sugarly Spiced”.

Urmi Kothari

A force to be reckoned with, Urmi Kothari, an “Energy Coach”, and founder of Kinetic Living, IFAA master trainer and Nike coach, has dedicated her life to mastering yoga, sports and athletics. Never one to be tied down, Urmi quit her job in 2009 and moved to Kerala for 3 years to train and perform with Daksha Sheth Dance Company. She trained in Kalaripayattu, Yoga under actress Isha Sharvani, the basics of Kathak & Mallakhamb, body percussion and movement. Armored with all of this knowledge only to be encouraged by her friends to teach her ways, she founded Kinetic Living.

Sudha Murthy

Sudha Murthy – The first woman engineer to work at Telco believes in perseverance, focus, and hard work. Ms Murthy’s attitude on being asked about being afraid of failure shines light on how she may have managed tough times and earned her success.

“On the contrary, I want to try new things. You know, many times I feel I may fail but I always like to start a new thing. Doesn’t matter, failure also gives us lessons and failure lessons are non-redeemable, meaning, you will not forget them.”

Priya Kannan

Failure and our next wonder woman, Priya Kannan, seem to be strangers. Faced with the possibility of raising two children on the autism spectrum, Priya ignored pessimistic doctors and teachers and carved her own path towards improving her children’s lives. The lack of Autism Awareness in India prompted her to celebrate World Autism Awareness Day with her friends Sudha and Krithika. They along with other parents of “Wiztara for Autism” organised Samarpan Utsav 2016 and 2017. She won, not only for her son but for so many children facing similar conditions.

Dr. Akkai Padmashali

Being true to who you are is important for the work that you do. No one has driven this notion further than Dr. Akkai Padmashali – A proud transgender activist. Years of taunting and difficulties such as facing constant social exclusion led her to create Ondede – A human rights organization that talks about children, women and sexual minorities. Her fight to bring awareness has led her to #PressForProgress by speaking with national and local councils about equality and justice. Her efforts weren’t in vain. She was acknowledged in 2012 by the then President of India, Pranab Mukherjee who had invited her to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the Chief Justice of India post which she has spoken to both national and local councils.

Anuradha

Driving change in one’s lifestyle may seem difficult, but let’s rewind back to 16th April 2015 when Anuradha made the decision to provide safe and secure travel for women chauffeurs with Go Pink. Realizing that not all journeys are safe for women and to give underprivileged women a chance at sitting behind the wheel.

Our Vedaearth women have triumphed over all the challenges they have faced. Vedearth is proud to feature women who #PressForprogress because achievement comes in many forms, and we value women’s individual and collective success.
